Costa Brava Day 1: Figueres and Besalú

Barcelona International College plans and sponsors one weekend trip for all their students. We were lucky enough to travel to Costa Brava. Roughly 45 students and 5 faculty members were in attendance on this excursion. Costa Brava is the northeastern coast of Spain, full of beach towns and old pueblos. This place became popular in the 50's and is now a booming tourist location full of clean beaches, fun nightlife, clear water, and full of numerous activities! Check out my action packed weekend in a three part post. PS sorry for lagging but this trip happened over a week ago and have yet to put it up. Well worth the wait, I think. Jumper:

Our first stop of the three day excursion was a town called Figueres where the famous Dali museum is located. I didn't really know what to expect but after a guided tour and some free time I was thoroughly impressed by the whole experience.

Turns out Dali himself designed the entire museum the way he wanted. As a surrealist basically trying to take over the word he was certainly a wild card and tough to figure out. It was interesting to see how much attention he payed to every room. Below was one of my favorite rooms. My camera couldn't even fit the whole ceiling into one photo it so I took two to capture this piece of work

This was called the Mae West Room. Not pictured is a kitchen attached upside down to the ceiling. I have no idea what went through this mans head and no one will ever know however he was pretty creative, obviously

Here is a picture of Dali himself. Can you say epic stache? He said it was a source of inspiration. Sometimes he would drip honey on each end of it so bees would come and buzz around giving him creative imagination and a starting point. Why else did he wear a such a ridiculous (awesome) looking mustached? "To pause and observe" said the famous man himself

After we enlightened ourselves on some culture we all piled onto the bus and drove about and hour to an old town called Besalú. Check out some photos below of this hidden gem:

Tunnels and passageways like this were found all over. How cool!

This is my buddy Nibhay. Originally from Australia and now working in the Fiji islands as a pharmacist aka killing it. Defnitely a cool dude, not a bad place to have a drink, eh mate?

Ello Chap!
